Local Students Win Trip to Washington, D.C. in Concho Valley EC Youth Tour Contest
Wall High School student, Luke Hoelscher, and Irion County High School students, Phoenix Parks and Daniel Ward will be representing Concho Valley EC and Texas in the 2022 Government-in-Action Youth Tour from June 12 to 21. They will first meet up in Austin, alongside 150 Texas participants, and learn about state government before heading to Washington, D.C. where they will join students from across the country. During the trip they will meet with their representatives in Congress, travel to historic monuments and landmarks, and visit museums where artifacts to our nation’s formation are preserved.
Concho Valley EC practices the seven guiding principles of cooperatives, one of which is education. Concho Valley EC is happy to provide the opportunity of education and training for their membership, particularly through youth programs such as the Government-in-Action Youth Tour. Youth Tour represents one of our most important investments in the future of the communities we serve. Participating students gain deeper perspective on the history and mechanisms of our democracy. Attendees often return with a renewed commitment to their hometowns, and many have gone on to become teachers, doctors, lawyers, politicians and even co-op employees in their communities.
