HALLOWEEN IS TYPICALLY one of the most anticipated holidays in the Concho Valley, where many local businesses, churches and schools host themed events. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 restrictions, many of these long-standing events were canceled in 2020. Bearing this in mind, Concho Valley Electric Cooperative planned an event that put a spin on the traditional trunk-or-treat experience and followed COVID-19 safety protocols.
Trucks and Treats, Concho Valley EC’s drive-thru event, featured CVEC employees operating bucket trucks, digger trucks, a backyard machine and a backhoe to create an engaging experience for visitors. Using bucket trucks and helium donated by Airgas, employees created balloon arches to mark the entrance and exit of the drive-thru, and CVEC staff gave out 225 bags worth of candy to children. Members that presented their SmartHub app also received an extra treat.
To add to the experience, a handful of local businesses brought out specialized vehicles and handed out candy. Fox Propane, Texas A&M Forest Service, Wall Volunteer Fire Department and Ross Sims Construction joined in on the fun and helped CVEC give back to the community.
CVEC appreciates all the members and visitors who came out to see the trucks and get treats. Because of the success of this event, CVEC aims to make it an annual celebration—one that will hopefully transform into an interactive event after the pandemic.
